Huge gardenia blooming on crosswalk in Changsha

In Changsha's Wuyi shopping district, a huge gardenia blossom has been artfully painted on the most recognizable crosswalk in the city, and thousands of gardenia boutiques were distributed free to pedestrians.

The street art and the flower handout are part of a tourism promotion campaign to celebrate the 14th China Tourism Day on May 19. The event was hosted simultaneously in Changsha and Wuhan, two popular tourist destinations.

Gardenia, a flower blooming in early summer, was chosen by the event organizer as the gift to promote local tourism, because both cities have developed a unique gardenia industry and the white flower is considered a symbol of summer.
