"Flowing Cup in Winding Water" is an elegant gathering activity of ancient Chinese literati, originating from the Eastern Jin Dynasty. This event is typically held on Shangsi Festival (March 3rd in the lunar calendar) in spring. Participants sit beside a meandering stream, placing cups (shang) on the water to let them drift downstream. When a cup stops in front of someone, that person must recite poetry or drink from the cup. This activity is not only a form of entertainment but also a way for literati to showcase their talents and exchange feelings.
